MFGA is a member organization committed to maximizing net income from flax
The Manitoba Flax Growers Association (MFGA) has been designated as the “certified organization” by the Certification Agency, under the “Agricultural Producers’ Organization Funding Act”, to collect a check-off for flax in the Province of Manitoba. MFGA is a member organization committed to maximizing net income from flax.
The check-off rate in Manitoba is set at 0.5% of gross sales. The check-off applies to all commercial seed sales of flax grown in the province of Manitoba. (Flax purchased for seed purposes is exempt.) Straw has a fee of 1% of the selling price.
By contributing to the automatic check-off, a farmer is considered a member in good standing with MFGA and is eligible for membership benefits. A farmer who chooses not to support MFGA and wishes to apply for a refund of their check-off must obtain a current period application twice per year.
Refund periods are as follows:
- Period 1 (Jan 1- June 30)
~A completed, legible and signed application must be received in our office by July 31
- Period 2 (July 1 – Dec 31)
~A completed, legible and signed application must be received in our office by February 28
- Check-off refunds are payable by:
~September 30 for Period 1
~April 30 for Period 2
